If electrical problems, drivability issues, intermittent faults, and check engine lights are the kind of work you enjoy, we want to talk with you.
Jim Brangham Auto Repair is an established, busy, family-owned shop serving the Coachella Valley since 1994. We service American and Asian vehicles and are looking for an experienced, ASE-certified technician who understands vehicle systems, tests thoroughly before recommending repairs, and takes pride in getting to the root of a problem.

Customer service is at the heart of our business. We are seeking someone who delivers accurate diagnostics and quality repairs, communicates clearly, and helps the entire team succeed.

What You'll Be Doing:
  • Diagnose complex engine performance, check engine light, drivability, and emissions concerns.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, network communication, and intermittent faults.
  • Use professional scan tools, lab scopes, digital multimeters, wiring diagrams, and factory service information to perform accurate testing.
  • Interpret live data, fuel trims, freeze-frame information, waveforms, and bidirectional test results.
  • Perform electrical circuit testing, including voltage-drop testing, and diagnose CAN bus communication issues.
  • Diagnose and repair automotive A/C systems, including R-134a and R-1234yf.
  • Perform maintenance and mechanical repairs on American and Asian vehicles.
  • Complete digital vehicle inspections with clear photos, findings, and repair recommendations.
  • Document diagnostic procedures and test results, and communicate findings clearly to service advisors.
  • Consistently produce more than 35 billed labor hours per week while maintaining quality and safety standards.
  • Participate in daily huddle meetings, sharing job status, parts needs, and workflow concerns.
  • Work with the service manager and fellow technicians to keep repairs moving and assist with challenging diagnostic problems.
  • Help guide a developing apprentice through hands-on instruction, safe work practices, and constructive feedback.
  • Attend scheduled training and continue developing technical skills.
  • Verify completed repairs, follow shop quality-control procedures, and maintain clean, organized work areas.

What We're Looking For:
  • At least eight years of recent professional automotive diagnostic experience.
  • Strong diagnostic and repair knowledge of American and Asian vehicles.
  • Current ASE certifications required; A4, A5, and A6 preferred.
  • ASE L1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist certification or willingness to obtain it if not currently held.
  • Proficiency with professional scan tools, lab scopes, digital multimeters, and advanced electrical testing.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, technical service bulletins, and factory diagnostic procedures.
  • Strong understanding of fuel and ignition systems, sensors, engine performance, and vehicle communication networks.
  • Automotive A/C diagnostic and repair experience.
  • Ability to work independently, take direction, and manage time effectively.
  • A track record of consistent billed-hour production and dependable workmanship.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and communication skills.
  • A team-first attitude and willingness to mentor an apprentice and support other technicians.
  • Dependability, professionalism, and pride in your work.
  • Valid driver's license.

Hybrid and EV diagnostic experience is a plus. A California Smog Check Repair Technician License is also a plus.

What We Offer:
  • Hybrid pay starting at $35–$45 per hour, based on experience and qualifications, plus performance bonuses.
  • Additional compensation opportunities for advanced certifications, including ASE L1 and a California Smog Check Repair Technician License.

  • Monday–Friday schedule with no weekends.
  • Paid vacation/PTO, holidays, and sick time.
  • A 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Paid technical education and continuing training.
  • Professional diagnostic equipment and service information.
  • A stable, family-owned business that values teamwork, accountability, and excellent customer service.
