Are you the automotive technician everyone turns to when no one else can find the problem?
Jim Brangham Auto Repair is looking for an experienced Advanced Automotive Diagnostic Technician with strong, recent, hands-on experience using professional automotive scan tools to diagnose electrical, drivability, check engine light, and vehicle performance concerns.
This is not an entry-level position or a career-change opportunity. Candidates must have recent professional automotive repair experience, preferably currently working in the automotive industry or having worked as an automotive technician within the past year.
We are specifically looking for an automotive technician—not a residential or commercial HVAC technician. A/C experience for this position means hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing automotive air conditioning systems, including R-134a and R-1234yf.
You May Be a Great Fit If You:
- Have at least 5 years of professional automotive diagnostic and electrical repair experience.
- Have recent hands-on experience working professionally as an automotive technician.
- Are highly experienced using professional automotive scan tools—not simply pulling and clearing trouble codes.
- Can interpret live data, freeze-frame data, fuel trims, waveforms, and other diagnostic information to determine the root cause of vehicle concerns.
- Can confidently read automotive wiring diagrams and perform electrical testing.
- Have experience diagnosing CAN Bus, module communication, charging, starting, drivability, check engine light, and intermittent electrical concerns.
- Have hands-on experience diagnosing and repairing automotive A/C systems, including R-134a and R-1234yf.
- Can explain and document your diagnostic process clearly.
- Produce consistent billed labor hours without sacrificing quality.
- Take pride in testing before replacing parts and fixing vehicles correctly the first time.
- Work well with Service Advisors and fellow technicians.
- Want to continue learning as automotive technology evolves.
Hybrid and Electric Vehicle experience is a strong plus. ASE Master or L1 Certification and a California Smog Test and Repair License are also a plus but are not required.
What You'll Do:
- You'll diagnose complex automotive electrical, drivability, check engine light, A/C, and vehicle performance concerns using professional scan tools, factory information systems, wiring diagrams, and proven testing procedures.
- You'll be expected to go beyond reading trouble codes. We're looking for someone who understands how to analyze data, develop a diagnostic strategy, perform the appropriate tests, identify the root cause, and clearly document the results.
- You'll also complete thorough Digital Vehicle Inspections with clear photos and detailed technician notes, communicate your findings with our Service Advisors, and participate in ongoing technical education and training.
